I also use holistic practices that address imbalances within the body's energy system. We think our minds run our lives, but that’s not true. The subcortical nervous system is another part of us responsible for our life patterns, behaviors, and emotions. I’ve found the best way to resolve trauma and make beneficial changes in a person's life is to access the nervous system directly. EMDR allows me to do that.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a highly effective psychotherapy method designed to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. The therapy is based on the premise that the mind can heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. Through EMDR, clients are asked to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is believed to reduce the emotional impact of past traumatic events. This process helps the brain reprocess the trauma, leading to significant reductions in the intensity and distress associated with traumatic memories.
